This homemade peach iced tea is super easy to prepare, fresh, and naturally sweetened. Skip the visit to the grocery store and whip up some of this deliciously refreshing summer drink. Perfect for hot weather days.
It’s been pretty hot here in Colorado the past few weeks, and it’s at times like this that being able to sip on a chilled refreshing beverage is just pure heaven. Make that a naturally sweet homemade peach iced tea and you’ve got yourself a winner.
I used to consume my fair share of sugary store bought iced teas when I was young, in fact, my sisters and I were obsessed…probably because they were total sugar bombs. Now, I could never go back to that after experiencing the subtle, fresh flavors of a natural fruity tea. While I cherish these fond memories, I will say, nothing can beat a homemade peach iced tea. Not only is it absolutely refreshing and delicious but it’s way healthier than the overly sweet store-bought version.
How is this peach iced tea naturally sweetened?
Most of the common iced tea recipes require either cane sugar/syrup, brown sugar, honey or maple syrup. With this recipe I wanted to go for a natural sweetener and decided to use medjool dates. To incorporate that sweetness into the tea you can either add them when simmering your peaches or add them when steeping the black tea. Personally, I find that peaches add a fair amount of sweetness on their own, so instead of simmering the dates, I just steeped them with the black tea. This tones down he sweetness of the tea and has the added benefit of allowing you to retain the beautiful fresh peach colors.
How to prepare peach iced tea
- In a medium sized saucepan add 3 cups of water and sliced, cored peaches. Simmer over medium heat for about 10-15 minutes until peaches have softened.
- Puree with a hand mixer or blend in a high speed blender. Strain and add about 3 cups of cold water. Set aside to cool down.
- Bring 3 cups of water to a boil and add black tea and medjool dates. Let steep for about 5-10 minutes
- Once tea has cooled down, remove dates, add lemon, mix with peach juice and transfer into a jug.
- Serve over ice with fresh peaches and store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
