Strengthen your immune system with a fresh Immune Boosting Juice. It is a blend of carrots, oranges, apples, turmeric, ginger and lemon. The natural sweetness of apples and oranges makes this refreshing juice irresistible. Perfect way to give yourself that extra edge this cold/flu season.
What we put into our bodies matters, and when I drink things like this, it feels so good knowing I’m giving myself tons of vitamins and minerals that my body will be able to use to keep me healthy.
Keeping your immune system healthy is extremely important especially while we all are dealing with the Corona Virus situation at the moment. My husband and I have taken that to heart and have been making immune boosting juices on a regular basis for the last couple weeks. This carrot/orange version is one of our absolutefavorites so I thought it would be nice to share this recipe with you guys.
Having a juicer for this recipe will make your life a whole lot easier. If you can’t get your hands on one, you could always try blending the ingredients with water and then straining through a nut bag. I haven’t tried that, but it would probably work.
The secret ingredients:
- Fresh Ginger – is one of the healthiest spices on the planet! It is said to have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral and other healthful properties. It is thought to improve gut health/digestion, help with nausea, reduce inflammation, support cardiovascular health, and help recover from a cold or flu. Do I need to go on? I would recommend looking up ginger online and reading about some of the purported health benefits. It’s enough reason for me to add it as a key ingredient.
- Fresh Turmeric – is very similar to ginger in the way it’s associated with a ton of health benefits. You can find a bunch of research that’s been done on turmeric exploring it’s anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties along with a whole host of other benefits.
- Lemons – are high in Vitamin C and antioxidants. Besides preventing or limiting a common cold, lemons are also known to promote hydration, help with weight loss, improve skin quality and aid digestion.
- Carrots – are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and other antioxidants. They have the potential to help vision, fight cancer, support gut health/digestion, control diabetes, manage blood pressure and support the immunes system.
- Oranges – are not only refreshingly tasty but also very nutritious. They are packed with vitamin C and other antioxidants that may reduce inflammation and work against diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer etc. Your immune system will thank you for the vitamin C supply drop as well!
- Apples – are a good source of fiber and vitamin C as well. They may help protect your heart, boost brain health, loose weight, protect from diabetes type 2 and cancer. There is a reason why people say “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” 😛
- Zinc – is extremely important for your body! There are a ton of health benefits associated with Zinc , but the one we’re really focused on today is immune system support. Zinc is extremely important for a healthy immune system as it regulates immune responses and helps your T cells attack infected/cancerous cells. Zinc deficiencies are known to severely impair immune system function! Thankfully, zinc is abundant in our diets and can be found in foods such as shellfish, seeds, nuts, legumes, oats etc. It is also available as a supplement. I like to take supplemental liquid zinc as an addition to my diet. I add one tablespoon of liquid zinc into my juice/water a day, and a tablespoons o a glass of this juice as well.
Keep your immune system strong, and remember, the best offense is a good defense:
- wash your hands with water and soap thoroughly – several times a day, especially after being outside and amongst other people.
- avoid touching the face, especially the eyes, mouth and nose.
- add vitamins/supplements into your diet, such as zinc, vitamin d and vitamin c.
- drink herbal teas such as peppermint, echinacea and elderberry. Some research says that echinacea encourages the immune system and reduces colds, flu, etc. symptoms.
- get enough sleep and exercise regularly. Exercise can improve the immune system and also support the adaptive immune system. As a person with an autoimmune disease I highly recommend any kind of movement (walking in the fresh air, outdoor sports, circuit training etc.)
- relax and try to relieve stress if possible through yoga, meditation, reading a book, etc.
- include colorful foods into your diet such as vegetables and fruits. They’re packed with fiber, vitamins and antioxidants.
If you happen to make this immune boosting juice yourself, please let me know how it goes. I would love to see what you come up with. As always, don’t forget to tag @delight.fuel or simply comment below.
